To welcome in the
first day of the New Year, the team was able to choose what they would like to
do in the morning, for Uganda’s public holiday. Some of the team made the
decision to attend a Church service, while others decided to use their time to
explore the main town of Jinja.
After being
reunited for a lunch prepared by Juliet, the team was able to have a small
timeout to get ready for the much-anticipated visit to the house of hope. The
House of hope is a home for Ugandan children who have a disability. On arrival very
excited children, and an ever-welcoming Mumma Edith greeted the team.
Edith, took the
team on a tour of the House of Hope, and took the time to grace us all with the
story of how she became both the founder and director. The team was then able
to spend some time with the children and provided them with both love and
attention. A highlight of the day was seeing the relationship, between the
women who work there and their children, as they celebrated their guests with a
dance and sing along.
Post supper the
team was forded the opportunity to have some time to reflect on what they had
seen today, and how both individually and as a team they were impacted by the
experience. There was an overwhelming sense of both a trust in God and admiration for the strength and love that Edith demonstrates towards her children and purpose.
We were very fortunate to have had the opportunity to spend some time with the children, and women at the House of hope and look forward to working closely with them in the future.
